No. In order to keep our design work free for our Clients and gradually increase our range of jewellery, we own the designs we create and reserve the right to recreate them for other Clients should they wish to enjoy the same piece. If you wish to pay for exclusivity – so that your design would be a one-off and would never be repeated – the cost of this would be higher.
Not necessarily, no. The cost of a bespoke engagement ring is the same as any comparable ring on our website, because we offer a free design service for all our rings. The only exception would be if you wish to pay for exclusivity – so that your design would be a one-off, and would never to be repeated – the cost of an exclusive design would be higher. All our rings are made by hand from molten metal, so the work required to make a bespoke design is the same as that required for an existing one.
You are entitled to a 14 day money back guarantee on all products bought from our online collection if you return the ring in an unworn condition. Yes, we can help. If your knuckles are only moderately pronounced, we can add sizing beads or a spring to help it fit on your finger and remain comfortable. For particularly prominent knuckles we can create a bespoke hinge for your ring so that you don’t need to worry about getting it over your knuckle at all.
Sizing beads are beads or strips of the same precious metal that your ring is made from that are added to the inside of the ring to help it fit comfortably and reduce excessive movement.
Sizing beads can be used if you have large or swollen knuckles, depending on severity. Adding sizing beads allows the ring to be big enough to fit over the knuckle but then stops the ring from being too loose once on your finger and helps to stop the ring moving around and feeling as loose.
Sizing beads are not suitable for all situations. In other circumstances, springs or hinges may be more appropriate.
Don’t believe everything you read on the internet. We’ve sat down with hundreds of customers and have simply tried different profiles on their wedding finger without a leading question to influence them one way or another – and the usual answer…court profile. We have found that for around 75% of people, court profile is the most comfortable, but some people do prefer a flat surface against their finger (often people who are knuckle driven because it provides a little more stability). There is no one rule for all though.

No. All bands are the same price to resize, but then costs can increase depending on the ring’s complexity and therefore the time and materials required to complete the work.
Most rings can be resized, at least to some extent, but the degree to which a ring can be resized depends on the style. The cost of resizing a ring depends on the complexity of the ring and therefore the time it takes. ]We recommend you contact us if you have any doubts about whether or not your ring can be easily resized in the future. Some examples of rings that can be difficult, and occasionally impossible, to resize include inlay rings, those with deep engraving, eternity rings, or very complex engagement rings.
Yes, we offer a free ring resizing service for all customers who have bought an engagement ring with us. We recognise it is almost impossible to get the size right the first time, so we have developed a free, remote service which takes around 2 weeks to get your perfect size, and to then resize your ring. Yes. The time of day, altitude, temperature, and exercise are all things which can change your ring size. For some people (those whose ring size is driven by their knuckle), the effect can be minimal to none existent. For other people (those whose ring size is driven by the fleshy part behind the knuckle), the effect can be minimal or it can be significant, spanning anything from 1/2 to 3 sizes!
Worry not, we provide a free resizing service for those people who have been through our ring sizing service, or you can purchase our ring resizing service and we’ll take care of that for you, all from the comfort of your own home. No. For example, some jewellers measure from the leading edge, others from the trailing edge of the ring, which can really matter, particularly for wider rings. We’ve also found that different brands of jewellers’ sizing mandrel will measure the same ring to different sizes. Our ring sizing service can help you get the perfect size, first time.
We would discourage you from going into a jewellers just to get your ring size for a couple of reasons. Firstly, we’re really proud of the accuracy of our remote ring sizing service, that will size you for the specific width and profile of the ring you want. And secondly, we think it’s a bit unfair on other businesses when you don’t intend to buy from them.
Yes. As a general rule of thumb, the flatter and wider the ring, the larger the size you will need. Because of this, we have developed our unique ring sizing service which uses the exact width and profile of the ring you intend to buy. Find out more about our Ring Sizing Service
n addition to the usual ‘push on, twist off’ advice, you may also need to consider the extent to which you are affected by your fingers changing shape during the course of a typical day. You may already know if this describes you, but if you’re unsure if your fingers are prone to changing size in this way, we would encourage you to use our remote ring sizing service and to wear the Stage 2 sizer for a few days to be absolutely certain you order the correct size.
Yes. We understand plans can change so we offer the following cancellation policy:
Cancellation 3 months before the date of your scheduled trip – full refund.
Cancellation 2 months before your scheduled trip – 50% refund.
Cancellation within 1 month of your scheduled trip – no refund will be given. This is because we are unable to fill this slot again within such a short time frame.
You can request to amend the date of your gold panning experience by giving us at least 2 months notice before the scheduled date of your trip. We will do our best to accommodate your requested alternative dates. Only one confirmed amendment can be made to your booking.

Not all ticks carry Lyme disease and we are not aware of any cases of Lyme disease in the area where we pan for gold. However, it is important to remain vigilant, and if a tick is found on your skin, it should be removed using a pair of fine-tipped tweezers or tick removal tool as soon as possible. The chance of getting ill is low, and as per NHS guidance, you do not need to do anything else unless you notice a circular rash around the tick bite or you develop flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, and tiredness or lack of energy. If you develop any of these symptoms in the three months following the bite, you should see your GP.
There are both midges and ticks in the area we will be panning. Midges can be a nuisance, particularly if there is little or no wind, but a good midge repellent can help – you may already have some, or there are effective midge repellents available to buy at the Green Welly Stop, and if you forget, our panning guide will always have some – we typically put on some before setting out from the parking spot.
Ticks can carry the bacteria that cause Lyme disease. You can reduce the chances of being bitten by:
We try to leave the river no later than around 4pm and you should arrive back at the Green Welly Stop no later than 5pm.
The exact location for our Gold Panning Experiences is top secret (we spent a long time finding the best place to pan), but we meet at the Green Welly Stop in Tyndrum (FK20 8RY), Scotland and from there we drive in convoy to the panning location.
We recommend wearing walking boots, plenty of layers of lightweight, outdoor clothing and a waterproof jacket. A pair of thick socks are a good idea to wear with your waders, and don’t forget to bring a belt so you can clip your waders onto it. We recommend you avoid wearing jeans as they take a long time to dry (you should stay dry, but it’s not guaranteed).
We provide you with a pair of waders to keep you dry while in the river as well as all the equipment you need to pan for your river gold. Normally we walk up the river in the waders, so the walking boots are really on standby.
Yes, you’ll need to bring your own packed lunch and we recommend bringing a few snacks too and plenty to drink.
As a general rule of thumb, we go out in all weathers, rain or shine. The only risk is if the weather is particularly severe and the rivers are in flood, in which case it may be too dangerous to enter the water. If this happens you will be offered a full refund.
It’s usually about a 30-minute walk to the panning spot, along a forestry track up a slight gradient, which requires a moderate fitness level. Panning itself is very physically demanding on the arms, legs and back and is comparable to a good all-body workout at the gym. The river bed can be slippery underfoot, so having strength and agility is an advantage when manoeuvring in the river, unless you don’t mind getting wet – in fact, it’s a pretty good idea to come prepared for the occasional splash regardless. But remember, it’s your day to enjoy – you’re free to do as much or as little panning as you wish.
Yes. Any gold you pan is yours to keep and you do not have to use it to create a ring or any other piece of jewellery. Alluvial river gold is stunning in its natural form and we are more than happy for you to simply join us on the river and learn about gold and gold panning.
It is meticulously cleaned and is then melted into the alloy we use to make your rings, incorporating the memories of your special day into the very fabric of your ring.
Scottish river gold is incredibly rare, so expect to find at least a few grains, which we will add to the recycled precious metals during the initial melt. Some of our luckier panners have found the occasional larger piece over the years, and you might too, but not enough to make an entire ring from.
Yes. We have never had anyone go home empty-handed and are confident that with our expert panning guide to help you, you will find at least a few grains of natural Scottish river gold.
Yes. We offer two gold panning experience packages – a shared experience, for up to four people (often two couples), or an exclusive experience for a maximum of two people or one couple where you have the undivided attention of your panning guide. The gold you pan can be added to an engagement ring or wedding ring(s) or any piece of jewellery. Alternatively of course, you might just want to take your hard-won grains of gold home with you to treasure.
Potentially. Each metal has its own characteristics and whilst your choice of metal is unlikely to fundamentally change the design, it may be that small adjustments to the design are needed to accommodate the properties of the metal used, for example, due to variations in the durability and strength of certain metals.
Yes. We accept family gold as part payment for a Jacqueline & Edward piece. We will carry out some simple tests to determine the carat of the gold and its value, and will confirm with you what the balance will be before we start working on your rings.
Some alloys, particularly those with a carat of less than 18ct, or alloys that were originally intended to be cast, may not be suitable for hand working due to their physical properties, and may result in an unsatisfactory colour or finish, depending on the alloy of the original gold. In these instances we may not be able to use your family gold within a custom piece. If we find that any of your gold is unsuitable for your commission we will discuss this with you – it may be that its value can be used as part- or full payment towards the purchase of a new Jacqueline & Edward piece, or it can of course be returned to you .
Yes. We can use your heirloom jewellery or other family gold to make a brand new ring or other piece of jewellery. We prefer to work with 18ct or 22ct gold as the working properties and colour of lower carat jewellery can be difficult to predict and can make for unsatisfactory results, even when alloyed up to 18ct by the addition of pure gold. Your gold is melted down to create your bespoke commission, or one of the pieces from our collection. If we find that any of your gold is unsuitable for your commission we will discuss this with you – it may be that the value of the gold can be used as part- or full payment towards the purchase of a new Jacqueline & Edward piece, or it can of course be returned to you.
Our metals decrease in strength in the following order: 950 platinum (the strongest) > rose gold > yellow gold > white gold (the weakest). Any metal can be used to make your ring but we recommend giving some consideration to how your lifestyle and/or your job might help to determine which precious metal you should choose.
No. From a purely aesthetic point of view, this is a subjective question and comes down to your own preferences. There simply is no right and wrong, and we have worked across all combinations you can think of. However, some metals are harder than other metals, so some consideration is advised when it comes to ring design and the way in which two rings are likely to interact with each other as they are worn. As such, if you are thinking of mixing metals it’s worth having a chat.
Ethics is a complex issue, encompassing environmental, socio-economic and humanitarian factors, and there is no one right answer. We have chosen to only use recycled precious metals because these metals are already in circulation in the world and do not therefore contribute further to the potentially adverse effects that mining can have on ecosystems and communities. Some of our metals go beyond simple recycled metal and have a super cool backstory embedded in the world of planetary remediation. For example, our copper comes from the electrical wiring of a remediation system I installed nearly 20 years ago to clean up a kerosene spill residing atop a groundwater resource used for public drinking water.
Yes. All of our engagement rings, wedding rings and jewellery you see on the website can be made in recycled 14ct or 18ct yellow gold, white gold and rose gold or 950 platinum.

No, the colour of our white gold is achieved by the addition of palladium into the alloy, which produces a nice, earthy tone, and which means it’s the same colour throughout, so there is no need to have it re-plated. You can of course have your white gold ring plated in the future, should you wish to alter the colour tone.
Our platinum rings and white gold rings are almost identical in cost now. Whilst platinum is denser, so you need around 30% more in weight for a ring of the same size, palladium-rich white gold is more expensive per gram. Platinum is also harder and is generally a more labour-intensive metal to work in, and takes more skill to finish to a high standard. All of these things mean that the cost of making a ring in platinum or in white gold is very similar.
Rhodium plated white gold is what is most commonly encountered in high street jewellery shop windows. It is super-white (whiter than platinum). Whilst the colour appeals to some tastes, the plating will eventually wear off in areas which suffer the most abrasion (e.g. the underside) and show through the true colour of the metal. This means it will need replating every few years to keep it looking its best. We use palladium-rich white gold which includes 16% palladium. We like the slightly earthier tone of palladium-rich white gold compared to rhodium plating, and it means our white gold is the same colour all the way through and never needs replating.
There are several differences between white gold and platinum – metal characteristics, colour, durability and cost.
Yes. Just like our lab-grown and recycled diamonds we use lab-grown coloured gemstones and recycled coloured gemstones like rubies, sapphires and emeralds in our work. We are open to the use of other stones and are certainly happy to discuss potential options with you if you have your heart set on something else, but we would need to be satisfied that our ethical approach would not be compromised.
Yes. As all our rings and jewellery are handmade and made-to-order, you can customise our designs anyway you like.

No. This is a complex and on-going debate. Some mining activities have as close to zero impact as it’s possible to imagine, such as some small-scale artisanal sapphire mines in Australia where dry subterranean gravel beds are excavated by hand. The gravel is washed only with water, sifted and replaced in-situ, with minimal impact. Most mining activity however, has the potential to cause significant harm, especially if appropriate risk mitigation measures are not put in place. We have chosen to remove ourselves from the mining sector, at least for now, until we can confirm first hand the absence of environmental, socioeconomic and humanitarian harm which will be done on a mine by mine basis should our stance change.
This is a complex question with no clear answer and really depends more on your own ethics and values are placed. We consider both to be a very ethical choice.
No. Moissanite looks very similar to a natural diamond or lab-grown diamond and can easily pass as a diamond. It’s a great alternative to both natural and lab-grown diamonds and is more affordable. Moissanite does have a little more fire than a typical diamond, which attracts many people. Although moissanite is lab-grown, the natural mineral was originally found in a meteorite impact crater, making it a perfect choice for people who love their astronomy.

No. To the naked eye you can’t tell the difference. If you were a gemologist and had specialist equipment you could identify certain features within a lab-grown diamond to indicate it wasn’t a natural diamond.

Something as simple as cutting out a strip of paper at the different widths you are interested in and wrapping them around your finger can give you an understanding of what suits you best. Or you can request some different ring widths during stage 1 of our ring sizing service.

This allows you to take a mould of your engagement ring from the comfort of your own home, which we can then use to create a bespoke contour to your wedding ring so it fits perfectly against your engagement ring.

We don’t cast our rings, But for a pair of wedding rings we can do even better than casting them from the same mould. Every ring we make is individually handcrafted using traditional techniques, from making our own alloys, to drawing our own wire. If you buy a pair of rings in the same metal, we always make both your rings from the same melt, meaning they are chemically inseparable. If you buy a pair of rings but in different metals, we can usually incorporate a bead of each metal in the underside of each of the others’ rings, so your rings can still be connected at the atomic scale.

Yes. It’s a personal choice of course, but having diamonds in your wedding band can certainly help to make it more unique. You should never feel any pressure to buy diamond wedding rings because your decision should be down to your own personal style and taste, or perhaps be influenced by the design of your engagement ring. Diamond wedding rings can have just one diamond, or may comprise a full eternity of pavè set diamonds.

Yes. Not all styles of engagement ring are suitable for everyone, particularly those with very active lifestyles or perhaps a physically-demanding job. We always recommend rings be removed before undertaking physical activities, but there are certainly some styles of setting and metal finishes that are better suited to people with active lifestyles or hands-on jobs. For optimal care, it’s wise to have your engagement ring professionally checked every six months to a year. This ensures everything is secure, particularly for intricate or multi-stone designs. You’ll learn about gold in the natural environment, our ethical approach to the materials we work with, and our traditional processes – it’s also a great opportunity to see genuine artisans creating our pieces in real time. This depends on how prominent your knuckle is. Sizing beads can be effective if your knuckle is only somewhat prominent, followed by ring springs, and then hinged rings for very prominent knuckles. Each of these solutions increase the complexity, and therefore the cost of making a ring.

All of our rings are packaged in one-of-a-kind ring boxes which are handmade here in Wetherby by our very own Grandpa Ray using fallen tree branches foraged sustainably from the woodland floor. The branches are cut to size and hand carved, and then felted to keep your ring safe and secure.
Yes. We make every piece individually by hand and love to modify our existing collection or create something completely new. We love nothing more than bringing your ideas to life and creating pieces that will be loved and cherished for life.
That depends. Certain designs are somewhat generic, featuring the same basic concept, and are produced by several different companies (e.g., a collet solitaire). We are happy to make such designs using our traditional handmade techniques, ethical metals and the addition of our natural river gold. However there are designs which are specific to a jewellery company or designer – often they look very unique, and whilst not necessarily protected by copyright, we believe in respecting their work and would encourage you to work with them directly if that is the piece you want. We are happy to use other designs as inspiration though, so if you like a particular design and want to see our interpretation of that concept we would love to hear from you.
Yes we do. We’re really proud of the accuracy of our ring sizing service, – so much so that, if you use our ring sizing service and your rings do not fit, we’ll resize them free of charge.
Don’t worry we offer a free resizing service. We find it almost inevitable that you will need to resize the engagement ring if you are trying to keep the proposal a secret. Our resizing service can be done without the need to leave the comfort of your own home.
A couple of ideas which might get you close:
1) If they wear a ring on the opposite hand but the same finger, it is worth knowing the fingers on your your dominant hand are typically 1/2 to 1 size bigger than your non-dominant hand;
2) If you think you can use your ninja skills, we can send you out some ring sizing loops to slip over their while they sleep;
3) Gently wrap a piece of paper around their finger and draw a line where the two overlap (least accurate way); and
4) If you have no idea, a general description of their hands (small, medium, large, prominent knuckles, etc.) would give us a steer.
Worst-case scenario, it is always better to go larger than needed so you can slip the ring over her finger in that special moment. The ring can always be resized later.
